today i spent much needed “down” time on the net.
down time is wasted time really, adding freinds to facebook. write a tweet. making a youtube video of my latest screen saver. search for people on the dreaded myspace (to no avail!). read up on my feeds, organized my bookmarks, and played with a new freeware app for my mac called “butler”.
Butler was the highlight of my evening. i found myself laughing becasue it was so functional. a tool that actually makes things easier… amazing.
one of the other things i did was begin the long process of manually migrating all our old posts from blogger to wordpress. there is probably a faster way to do it, but i have enjoyed reading our old posts…. from 2004… whoa. and that’s when i switched to blogger from freewebs where i had wrote all my posts in html (anyone remember julieandjesse.happy-couple.com in 2003?)
it is interesting to go back and read the struggles we had 3 and 4 years ago. for instance Julie wrote a post in 2005 entitled “Life is Hard” where she said
Ever since our move to Tucson, my whole spiritual life has been challenged and it seems like the easiest thing to do is just give up. [ … ]where is God???
we have come so far, and grown up so much. we posted some of the craziest stuff. some pretty embarrassing even.
so here’s to realizing we have had a website and blog for over 4 years now. let’s hope we learn how to use it someday.

* special thanks to The Way Back Machine for keeping an archive of the internet since 1996 or something like that.

these last two days have been a flash back to bible college for me. Glen Elliott, the lead pastor at Pantano Christian Church, is teaching an “Overview of the Bible” class and i have the opportunity of directing the taping and production of the videos of the teaching. I have filmed classes like this 3 times now since being hired as the media coordinator, and each time my respect for the church leaders grows so much, i feel more privileged to have access to the teaching, and i learn more about the technical aspects of video taping something like this.
this class will be the first that is available in HD, thanks to Phil and the new camera!
I will have an update on this in the future with a link to the teaching online.

in about 231 days we are expecting another child. yep, you read right… we are in for more adventure. Julie has started getting her weekly updates, and this week was informed that our child is the size of a blueberry with hands, legs, an appendix and a pancreas.
read more about “week 7″ on Baby Center
we are taking name suggestions…
so far Julie is leaning toward Joshua Jude [as in “hey jude”], and i want Charles Allen [both our Dad’s middle names] if a boy.
if a girl, Julie likes Rachel Alice [for Margie] , and i like Claire [see: Elizabeth Town movie] or Moriah [region where the mountain was for Abe to kill Isaac] (until tonight when i read the meaning… although it really fits this season of our journey).
i hope i can let Julie do the name deciding this time…

my christmasnewyearanniversarybirthday gift this year was a much needed upgrade to my sprint cell phone. my 2-year contact was expired, and that means big deals for naive unknowing consumers who are willing to sign yet another 2-year wemakemoneyandyouloseoutnomatterwhat contract.
i got the new UpStage phone (in black) which is a phone on one side and filps over to expose an mp3 player. it is super thin, and super small, and feels very fragile. Julie guesses i will break it in less than 3 months. i been extra careful to prove her wrong. i know i can last for 4 months at least.
it is an amazing piece of technology. really amazing. and if i can’t have an iPhone, it’s the next best thing (and much much cheaper for a new contract customer). the only thing i can say about this phone, that can make it possibly more functional than an iPhone is the size… it is considerably smaller (which can be worse in some cases… possibly my case).
now when you’ve upgraded to a new phone you have to ask yourself two questions:
1. how do i do what i want to do on this phone?
(what i did i do on my old phone? what do i need to get done or know how to do? what are the essential functions?)
2. what can this phone do that my other phone could not?
(what is something it does that i don’t know how to do? what is something i need to start doing? what new features will help me be more productive and efficient where i need it?)
i am still learning some of the features, and having fun experimenting and learning how to navigate a new tool. i have learned that i get a lot of energy from having to learn and adapt to new things.
